Rachmat wins a rain drenched event

It was the wettest event held in years. Heavy downpours throughout the day turned the stages into rivers which meant driving through it almost impossible. Only 4 of the originally planned 6 stages were used with the roadside stages length shortened by half as it was flooded. Leg 1 of the rally of Terengganu will be remembered as the best event in the 2018 championship calendar. Unique surface change in the East

The final round of the 2018 Championship makes its first visit to the East after more than a decade and it returns with sting in the tail. Lembah Bidong in Kuala Terengganu is the venue of the rally. Battle of the young guns

The usual heat, dust and constant breeze was the perfect blend of the Rally of Perlis as it concluded Sunday afternoon. The 30 cars tackled the 2 loops of 6 stages with a total of 76 km of special stages. The record entry of 12 4WD cars and 18 2WD cars drew huge crowds along the stages eager to catch a glimpse of the rally action. MORE >>>

Windy and Bone dry!

It was business as usual for the 31 competitors whom started leg1 of the Rally of Perlis. It was an anxious moment early in the day with the weather forecast predicted 90% rain around 3pm. However the weather remained dry and windy right through the end and only started to rain at 6pm. MORE >>>

Be prepared for lots of rain!

Another twist for the Malaysian Rally Championship 2018 is a last minute change of venue for the second round. With all the competitors gear up to head east for a new event in the calendar, the Perlis round which is scheduled to take place in December had to be brought forward to this weekend replacing Kuala Terengganu. With heavy downpours forecast especially this time of the year, it could be one of the muddiest events to be seen this season because when it rains in Perlis it wont stop! MORE >>>

Yuya Sumiyama and Rachmat bags it

The final 6 stages of Leg 2 was run under what is considered the ideal rallying conditions in Malaysia. Cloudy skies and damp gravel surfaces provided excellent grip and no dust to choke up visibility. Driving the successful Skoda Fabia R5, Cusco Racing Yuya bags the 2018 edition of the International Rally of Johor. Teammate Mike Young finished second well over a minute behind with Yuya. Both Yuya and Mike Young was pleased with their performance and credit everyone for a wonderful weekend. It's a meaningful victory for Cusco Racing as they continue to develop the Toyota Vitz. Kota Tinggi - Japanese driver Yuya Sumiyama managed to finish at the top of his field on the first leg of the Johor round of the FIA Asia Pacific Rally Championship (APRC) at the 2018 International Rally of Johor today. The 42-year-old seasoned APRC campaigner, with his co-driver Takahiro Yasui, powered their Skoda Fabia R5 through all six stages today with a total time of 2:09:57.537 to extend his lead over his Cusco Racing team mate Mike Young from New Zealand. A family affair

The ceremonial start the evening at Plaza Angsana, Johor Baru officially marks the start of the International Rally of Johor 2018. All the 32 cars were flagged off by YB Liow Cai Tung, chairman of the women's development and tourism ministry of Johor. The rally is scheduled to start early Saturday Morning with 6 stages covering a 140 km loop through and flow Plaza Angsana and the Tai Tuk estate in Kota Tinggi. Record entry for MRC rd 1

30 cars is the final tally of registered cars taking part this weekend International Rally of Johor 2018 which is Round 1 of the Malaysian Rally Championship. A mixture of seasoned and new faces as well as Friends from Indonesia and Japan is set to sample the challenges Malaysian rallying over the course of the weekend along side the 4 APRC registers competitiors.

Heading the list of competitors is the Cusco Racing with 2 cars of Yuya Sumiyama and Mike Young. The pair will be driving the Skoda Fabia and a Toyota Vitz. Indian Abhilash PG (Subaru Impreza) and Abdul Kaathir (Satria Neo) makes up the list of APRC entrant. 2017 season concluded on a high note with the attention and awareness of rallying and the championship as a whole began to draw serious media coverage with the introduction of social media and live streaming throughout the year. It has resulted in new competitors taking part in the championship and interest from motorsports fans was trending high. The trend is set to continue right from the beginning of the new season.
